Personal Experience

Matt O’Brien is a seasoned entrepreneur with extensive experience on both the buy-side and sell-side of business transactions. Having worked with Murphy Business M&A Advisors throughout his career, he experienced firsthand the firm’s value in facilitating successful deals. Recognizing the impact Murphy Business M&A Advisors had on his own journey, he eagerly joined the firm to help other business owners navigate complex transactions.

Matt began his career in the commercial insurance sector before transitioning into entrepreneurship. His first acquisition was in the trucking industry, where he scaled a small business from three employees and trucks to nearly 30 through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, ultimately achieving a successful exit.

Following that exit Matt acquired a niche commercial construction company, where he continues to serve as Chairman, leading the business to a 75% revenue increase after just two and a half years. His firsthand experience in business acquisitions, operational growth, and exit strategies provides him with unique insights into the challenges and opportunities that business owners face.

Matt understands that selling or acquiring a business requires not only financial expertise but also emotional resilience. His ability to balance financial literacy with the personal dynamics of ownership transitions makes him an invaluable advisor to clients preparing for a sale or acquisition.

Matt and his wife, Jacquelyn—also a business owner through acquisition—have two children, Collins (9) and Beckett (7). They enjoy traveling, supporting their favorite college and professional teams, and watching their children compete in athletics.
